Twisted ear warmers are all the rage this year and crochet rib stitch is just a classic! My Rib Stitch With A Twist Ear Warmer pattern has it all. It has the twist and it also has a clever twist on the classic rib stitch.
Rib Stitch With A Twist Ear Warmer pattern is beginner friendly and quick. It uses less than 2 oz of bulky yarn making it perfect for using up scraps from other projects.
This pattern creates a reversible and stretchy fabric that holds its size and shape really well.
One side of the fabric will have thinner textured stripes and the other side will have thicker textures stripes. There is no wrong side of the fabric! You choose which side will be your right side.
If you’d love an ad-free .pdf version of this pattern you can find it at Ravelry and on Etsy. The .pdf version of the Rib Stitch With A Twist Ear Warmer pattern is written in 3 sizes (Adult, Child and Toddler). Each pattern size is written for Aran weight yarn and is also written for bulky weight yarn.
Tips for Back Loop Only Slip Stitch-
If this is your first time working with the back loop only slip stitch (BLO SLST), I encourage you to give it a chance. It can be fiddly at first but with practice it will get very easy and hopefully be a stitch you turn to for projects needing stretch AND recovery. I use it for most of my hat brims. It’s a great technique to have in your crochet stitch arsenal.
Try to keep your tension loose.
Go up a hook size if you need to.
If your hook just isn’t working, consider trying it with an inline hook instead of a tapered one (or tapered instead of inline).
Pull several lengths of yarn from your skein so your yarn is nice a loose to work with. Having to pull the yarn while crocheting the back loop only slip stitch can tighten up the stitch.
For the Rib Stitch With A Twist Ear Warmer-Adult size, you will need
Hook– K (6.5mm) Hook
Yarn– 1.9oz /57yd 52g/52m Bulky Weight yarn. I used Loops & Threads Charisma
Extras– yarn needle, scissors and measuring tape.

Rows 9-13 repeat Rows 3-7 one time.
Finish off and cut yarn leaving a tail of about 6″.
With your right side of the fabric facing up, grab each short edge of the ear warmer.
Fold each short edge until they resemble the letter C (green) and a backwards letter C (yellow). See photos below.
Sandwich the short edges together so that you have left side edge, right side edge, left side edge and right side edge sandwiched and stacked on top of each other.
Thread your long yarn tail onto a yarn needle. Sew along the edge of the fabric making sure to catch all 4 edges with each pass of the needle.
Before you tie off and weave in any tails, flip ear warmer right side out and check that you haven’t missed any part of the edge and that there are no holes. If all is good, tie off and weave in any ends.
Turn ear warmer right side out. Your Rib Stitch With A Twist Ear Warmer is done!

I love this pattern! Can you tell me what size this free version is meant for? 9.25×4.5 doesn’t seem big enough for an adult, which is what I’d like to make. Thanks!
Thank you! It is indeed adult size. The measurement is across one side of the assembled ear warmer. If going all the way around the ear warmer your measurement would be 18.5″-19″. This pattern is stretchy.
