Autumn Vines Crochet Cables Cup Cozy

It’s July and I am already longing for the cooler temperatures of Autumn and all the fun seasonal things that go along with it. For me, Fall in Eastern Nebraska isn’t complete unless we visit Vala’s Pumpkin Patch and Apple Orchard and Skinny Bones Pumpkin Patch. And I just can’t wait for my favorite coffee shop to roll out the seasonal flavors! The Autumn Vines Crochet Cables Cup Cozy is perfect for my seasonal coffee filled cup while I am out enjoying all the fun Autumn has to offer.

The cables created in this cute cup cozy remind me of the vines from my pumpkin plants in the garden. They actually remind me more of the pumpkin stalks growing off the top of my pumpkins, but calling the pattern Autumn Stalks wouldn’t have worked 😉

The Autumn Vines Crochet Cables Cup Cozy, is an intermediate crochet pattern. If you’ve never done crochet cables before, this pattern is a great starting point. It uses a combination of double and triple crochet post stitches to achieve a beautiful cable. Short rows of back loop slip stitches to give this cozy some great stretch and recovery.

The Autumn Vines Crochet Cup Cozy will fit a variety different size cups and will easily slide on and off.

When paired with a reusable cup and a small gift card, cup cozies make great gifts that work up quickly.

Tips for Back Loop Only Slip Stitch-

If this is your first time working with the back loop only slip stitch (BLO SLST), I encourage you to give it a chance. It can be fiddly at first but with practice it will get very easy and hopefully be a stitch you turn to for projects needing stretch AND recovery. I use it for most of my hat brims. It’s a great technique to have in your crochet stitch arsenal.

Try to keep your tension loose.

Go up a hook size if you need to.

If your hook just isn’t working, consider trying it with an inline hook instead of a tapered one (or tapered instead of inline).

Pull several lengths of yarn from your skein so your yarn is nice a loose to work with. Having to pull the yarn while crocheting the back loop only slip stitch can tighten up the stitch.

For the Autumn Vines Crochet Cable Cup Cozy, you will need

Hook– G (4mm) Hook

Yarn– 0.75oz /38yd 21g/34.5m Worsted Weight #4 yarn. I used Lion Brand Heartland

You can use a different worsted weight yarn but you may need more or less yarn depending on what you choose to use.

Extras– yarn needle, scissors and measuring tape.

  1. Hi! So, I came across your pattern for a dog bandana on a roundup, and when I saw Papio Creek Crochet, I just had to dig a bit further to see if it was the creek I know or just a name. Growing up in Bellevue & Omaha, to me, Papio Creek is something I’ve driven over or walked next to regularly (or observed overflowing during big storms ha), for decades. Seeing Vala’s & Dundee and Elkhorn named patterns mentioned here…. Hello fellow Eastern (just East? Does it matter?) Nebraskan! It’s nice to see a local crochet designer/blogger, and I look forward to checking out all of your patterns. I’m really interested to see how the area we live in and our crazy weather impacts design decisions compared to other designers from different areas. It’s something I’ve often wondered about.
I’m hoping you have an email list I can subscribe to. Off to hunt for that now. Have a great weekend!
