This pattern! I have spent about a year and a half with this pattern on my to do list for this website. Life got in the way. And now that summer is here, school is out, and I am recovering from a broken ankle (middle aged and walking can be painful) I am finally getting around to publishing the Cedar Creek Wrap crochet pattern on my website.
The Cedar Creek Wrap pattern was originally published in Happily Hooked Magazine, issue 103, October 2022. I wrote this pattern because I wanted a warm wrap that would stay in place and would look great with jeans or could be dressed up as needed.

Using the Alpine Stitch and the Tree Branch Stitch, the Cedar Creek Wrap is a pattern that doesn’t need a lot of attention. You can easily pick it up and put it down. It can be customized to be longer/shorter or wider/thinner based on your needs.
I’ve used Premier Yarns Nordica which is a DK weight (#3) yarn, but this pattern can be adjusted for different yarn weights. Just know that the amount of yarn you need and the hook sizes will probably change based on what you decide to use.
Materials
Yarn- 1150m /1258yds 460g / 16.5 oz DK weight (light worsted) yarn. I used Premier Nordica Anti-Pilling Acrylic
US size G/ 4.0mm crochet hook and US size 7 / 4.5 mm crochet hook

Tape measure (optional)
Stitch markers (optional) to mark every 10 rows

CH- Chain

Gauge
Gauge is not terribly important for this wrap.
4″ x 4″ square = 14 rows x 30 DC worked in TBS with 4.5 mm hook
Notes
US terms
CH 1 at end of each row DOES NOT count as a stitch.
To make wrap wider/narrower, you will need to increase/decrease beginning stitch count by multiples of 4.
Wrap can be made longer by continuing TBS rows until you reach desired length and then completing Row 244. This will affect the amount of yarn needed.
Wrap can be made shorter by stopping your TBS rows once desired length is reached then completing Row 245. This will affect the amount of yarn needed.
When working the Alpine Stitch section, even numbered rows are WS, odd numbered rows are RS. Once you start working the TBS section of the wrap, there will no longer be a WS/RS of the wrap. Special Stitches
Tree Branch Stitch
Each TBS is made up of 3 DC worked as follows.
SK 3 DC. DC into space between 2 TBS from the row below, DC into the top of the middle DC of the TBS from 2 rows below making sure to pull your loop up to the same height as the first DC. DC into the space between the
last DC made and the next TBS from the row below. TBS made.
Alpine Stitch
The Alpine Stitch is a 4 row repeat. I’ve numbered these rows how they appear in the pattern. ALL FPDC STs are worked 2 rows below.
Row 6 (WS of fabric) SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn.
Row 7 (RS of fabric) DC into first ST, DC into next ST, FPDC around next ST.
Repeat * to * across to last 2 ST. FPDC around next ST, DC into last ST. CH 1, turn.
Row 8 (WS of fabric) SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn.
Row 9 (RS of fabric) DC into first ST, FPDC around next ST, DC into next ST. Repeat * to * across to last 2 ST. DC into next ST, DC into last ST. CH 1, turn.
Pattern Instructions
Alpine Stitch Section (the pass through)
With 4.0 mm hook
Row 1- FHDC 44. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Alternatively, you can CH 45, HDC into first CH from hook and into each CH across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 2- (WS) SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 3- (RS) DC into first ST, DC into next ST, FPDC around next HDC 2 rows below. Repeat * to * across to last 2 STs. FPDC around next HDC 2 rows below, DC into last ST. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 4- SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 5- DC into first ST, FPDC around next DC 2 rows below, DC into next ST. Repeat * to * across to last 2 ST. DC into next ST, DC into last ST. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 6- SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 7- DC into first ST, DC into next ST, FPDC around next DC 2 rows below. Repeat * to * across to last 2 ST. FPDC around next DC 2 rows below, DC into last ST. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 8- SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Row 9- DC into first ST, FPDC around next DC 2 rows below, DC into next ST. Repeat * to * across to last 2 ST. DC into next ST, DC into last ST. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
Rows 10-45- Repeat rows 6-9 nine times.
Row 46- SC in each ST across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs)
You should have a square that measures approximately 9.5″ x 9.5″. Fold square in half wrong sides together,lining up Row 1 with Row 46.
Row 47- Working through Row 1 and Row 45, SC each ST across. CH 1, turn. (44 STs) DO NOT cut yarn.
Tree Branch Stitch section (body of the wrap)
With 4.5mm hook
Row 48- SC in first ST, 2 SC in next ST. SC in next ST, 2 SC in next ST. Repeat to * across. CH 1, turn. (66 STs)
Row 49- SC in first 5 STs, 2 SC in next ST. SC in next 5 STs, 2 SC in next ST. Repeat * to* across until 6 STs remain. SC into each ST. CH 1, turn. (76 STs)
Row 50- SK 3 SC, 3 DC into next ST. Repeat * to * across making 3 DC in last ST of the row. CH 1, turn. ( 57 DC or 19 clusters of 3 DC STs)
Row 51- SK 3 DC. DC into SP between 2 DC clusters from row below, DC into top of the middle SC from 2 rows below making sure to pull loop up to same height as first DC. DC into space between last DC made and next DC cluster from the row below. TBS made. Repeat from * to * across to CH 1 SP from row below. DC into CH 1 SP, DC into top of the middle SC 2 rows below, DC into top of turning CH. CH 1, turn. ( 19 TBS)
Row 52- *SK 3 DC. DC into space between 2 TBS from the row below, DC into the top of the middle DC of the TBS from 2 rows below making sure to pull your loop up to the same height as the first DC. DC into the space between the last DC made and the next TBS from the row below.* Repeat * to * across to CH 1 SP
from row below. DC into CH 1 SP, DC into top of the middle DC 2 rows below, DC into top of turning CH. CH 1, turn. ( 19 TBS)
Rows 53 through 244-Repeat Row 52 192 times or until wrap measures 62″ long.
Row 245- HDC in first 3 STs, DC into top of the middle DC from 2 rows below *HDC in next 3 STs, DC into top of middle DC from row below.* Repeat from * to * across until 1 ST remains. HDC into turning CH. (76 STs)
Finish off, cut yarn and weave in all ends.
